Chiang Mai Day 4---More Highs and Lights with a little Ups and Down

Day 4--The body started wearing in and more has accustomed to the climate of dry and cool weather. Good sign.
2 games for the Junior Team (CUBS) and 1 for the Senior Team (LYNX). The score does not tell much. The score sheet does. The 2 games that the CUBS have are expected to be lost. Game 1 CUBS vs Chiang Mai University--2:12. Gme 2 CUBS vs Raffles A--0:20. If I put a big full stop here, it will definitely invite a lot of "hoo" and "haa" and punctuation !!??!????!! just looking at the score. I will spare the details again. Just want to summarise the game (as I have more High and Lights to tell.) Good Games for both. Objective achieved.

The game that the Lynx played was spectacular. It has come to almost autorun. Hits and Hits and Hits. Run and Run and Run. These are the words for the offense. 1-2-3 out and 1-2-3 out. These are the words for the Defense. Highlights ? High first--We Took a lead of 11-2 with superb hitting and rally. Ka Yue send a solo home Run in the 4th inning bring the team to another high . Lights ? I rest my pitcher for more games ahead and fielded my relieve pitcher. With few runs coming and a few errors, I contemplated, change my pitcher back? Relax, we were still leading. Trust the fielder. And I bet on the right side. We won thanks to the big buffer created by the superb batting rally. Way to go B Div 2009.
It was me that has my own high. By the time the 3 games have finished, I was left with chance to compete with my Own Team O'Boyz. Coach put me first base. 2nd Batter after Edmund. Got on base by error for first at bat. Ground out to 2nd base for next at bat. experience and nolstalgia? Priceless. O'Boys won the game. Yeah! They are in through 2nd round.
I will want the Lynx to go through to 2nd round tomorrow. So far with 2 wins, chances are high. But the next game will be tough. So what? It was as if we had never had tough game before. Press on. First game at 8am tomorrow ZZZzzzz. It will be Bbrrrrrrrr.... cold.

Chiang Mai Day 3-The Time Has Come

Today is the day for us to do what we are here for--Compete.
It all started with a Grand openning ceremony at 7.30am. Got the Cubs to attend as they do not have games today.
Our first game for Lynx, Team CH senior is played against Aerothai. Goodness, these people are still around. I remebered some of the team members were playing when I was still in the University. Good to see some of the old faces. But let see what our team of average age 15+ can put up against. I shall spare the details with only the Highlights ( the High and the Lights). We won them. the final score is 6-4. The high is Wee Kian came back from getting hit at the groin area ( ouch!) to hitting a home run. Way to forget the pain. The light is Wai Kuong, Kay Yue, Edmund, Daniel continued with a rally of hits and drive. Wai Kuong was near the highs when he slam a triple touching the fence. Way to go. Fielding was tight, though some loose end needs to be tied. Good game Lynx.

Another Highlight was releasing the lantern (kong ming deng) and lighting some of the fireworks after the welcome dinner. It was the first for some. For the J2s and J1s, it is just like the good old days. Everyone had their wish written on the lantern and let it carry them (wishes) up to the sky. May all our wish come through Team CH. Happy New Year! What a Year! and what a year ahead.

Chiang Mai Day 2-Can't Wait for the Action

Lets face it, the nearer you are to the tournament date, the more anxiety. What is the draw gonna be? How will the team perfrom? which teams are here? Nonetheless, nothing can be done till the managers meeting. So meanwhile, just relax !
The morning light training at the field was pretty short and sharp. Running, throwing, fielding and batting....all seems so naturally...to the point that I would assume they were born to play. On the hind side, so are some of the bad habits and mechanics. The purpose is to let players get used to the competition ground, and playing in cooler, dryer condition. I seem to be panting harder after doing the sprint and warm up (need to condition for my game later on)....could it be the higher ground? could it be the weather? could it be....I am just getting old! It is good to be early though, we got the whole field to ourselves. It's good to see other friendly faces from other Singapore Teams, O'Boyz, HCI. Just like the good old days.

The buffet Spread at the hotel was pretty sumptuous. Been trying to tell myself not to over eat, failed. The boys tend to avoid the local delicacies and go for the "sub-to-my-standard" sushi. The noodle soup was great!

The ride up Doi Suthep provided more excitement than Doi Suthep itself. The Highlight should be the queue for the local ice tea though.

While the boys were having their time shopping at the Central Kad Suan Kaew later, I was killing my time chit-chating with coach Jerry and O'boyz manager at the managers meeting. We all agree, time in Thailand is made of rubber. But come to think about it, are we moving too fast here in Singapore.

The game schdule was pretty well spread. Only 1 game tomorrow for Senior Team. Action just get closer. But the beauty after all this years, I have the seniors to share my thoughts and discuss our cause of acton for the teams. Hate to use this " I (no longer) walk alone" ;-)

Can't wiat for the action. can't wait to take stock of how we are coping so far. Are we ready for 2009?....akan datang.
