Chiang Mai Day 2-Can't Wait for the Action

Lets face it, the nearer you are to the tournament date, the more anxiety. What is the draw gonna be? How will the team perfrom? which teams are here? Nonetheless, nothing can be done till the managers meeting. So meanwhile, just relax !
The morning light training at the field was pretty short and sharp. Running, throwing, fielding and batting....all seems so naturally...to the point that I would assume they were born to play. On the hind side, so are some of the bad habits and mechanics. The purpose is to let players get used to the competition ground, and playing in cooler, dryer condition. I seem to be panting harder after doing the sprint and warm up (need to condition for my game later on)....could it be the higher ground? could it be the weather? could it be....I am just getting old! It is good to be early though, we got the whole field to ourselves. It's good to see other friendly faces from other Singapore Teams, O'Boyz, HCI. Just like the good old days.

The buffet Spread at the hotel was pretty sumptuous. Been trying to tell myself not to over eat, failed. The boys tend to avoid the local delicacies and go for the "sub-to-my-standard" sushi. The noodle soup was great!

The ride up Doi Suthep provided more excitement than Doi Suthep itself. The Highlight should be the queue for the local ice tea though.

While the boys were having their time shopping at the Central Kad Suan Kaew later, I was killing my time chit-chating with coach Jerry and O'boyz manager at the managers meeting. We all agree, time in Thailand is made of rubber. But come to think about it, are we moving too fast here in Singapore.

The game schdule was pretty well spread. Only 1 game tomorrow for Senior Team. Action just get closer. But the beauty after all this years, I have the seniors to share my thoughts and discuss our cause of acton for the teams. Hate to use this " I (no longer) walk alone" ;-)

Can't wiat for the action. can't wait to take stock of how we are coping so far. Are we ready for 2009?....akan datang.

Chiang Mai Open Day 1

Finally get to sit down to do the entry for today. Everyone is well settled down and resting. Thinking back, this trip is somewhat miracle in the making. From NZ to Taipei and finally to Chiang Mai Open in a span of 4 months. Not to mention the Bangkok airport seize. All timing and external factor could have diminished our chance of fulfilling our trip. Lots of judgement call.....but I firmly believe that it is all worth it. Finally, we are here, Team CH for the 3rd time--Chiang Mai Open 2008. Got news that the reds are protesting in Bangkok....here in Chiang Mai, couldn't be quieter, especially for our Hotel location which is situated quite a distance (10 minutes so to said) from the city centre. The dinner is set menu chinese food. No surprise for the boys....No risk in food for first day.

After the general orientation of the area and a trip to 7-Eleven for water and their personal supplies (like tooth brush, crackers, underwear!?!), I gave my first series of Teaching for the Champion Mindset. Deberiefed and the boys were left to pack/unpack and personal admin.

Will have morning training at 8am tomorrow. Follwed by a trip to Doi Suthep to visit the temple up on the mountain. They will have some times to shop and dinner is planned to be all you can eat hotpot. Team Managers meeting at 4pm....the action will start on 31st. Better let them relax a little before the tournament. Bonding is the key for 1st and 2nd day. So far so good. Way to go Team CH.

The pix are loading too slowly.. Got 20 minutes more remaining....am losing it am losing it....... share the pix tomorrow if these aren;t through....

View from the Past--Overseas Training Tour, Taiwan

Time Flies, really really flies. zoooom!! and it's 2 years since we had an oversea training trip. We benefited from the Taiwan Trip. It's more than a cultural shock ( in a good sense) that we experienced. It is through these exposure that we can realise the inadequacy of our systems, culture, drive, hunger, standard in many aspect of our training, up bringing, education and social interaction. To me this serves as the window of opportunity to improve, change and restructure the way we think, we train, we behave and we act. It takes more than training to be Champions.

Some reminiscence.....

Pre trips Thoughts

Chiang Mai Open has unoffcially become Team CH Softball biannual event. When ever I look through the photos of the past 2 trips, I set my mind that this is the kind of Training Trip i want the boys to go through. It is what I called subtle learning. We take home more than Trophies. It's about learning a new culture, knowing a little more of your team mates, understand more of your abilities, seeing the best and sometimes the worst of us. It's all in the learning. I am sure trip #3 will be an equally memorable one. Can't wait to go.
